Mirjana Milijević, Assistant Professor at the University of Banja Luka, Faculty of Economics, presented the findings from the “Study visit to Manchester organized by partner ISPIM: Innovation Leadership.” The presentation focused on leadership in innovation within the UK, as observed during the visit. Mirjana highlighted the role of the Manchester Institute of Innovation Research, which concentrates on key research areas such as science and technology policy, innovation management, and the governance of emerging technologies. The institute’s interdisciplinary approach and its engagement with global academic networks were key components discussed, showcasing the importance of sustainable innovation, socio-technical systems, and place-based innovation.

In addition, Mirjana emphasized the leadership strategies observed at Manchester Metropolitan University, where innovation leaders focus on building relationships, trust, and collaborations between academic institutions and industries. A specific case highlighted was the partnership with Jacobs Nuclear Decommissioning, illustrating the role of leadership in facilitating institutional strategies and delivering impactful societal solutions. This visit underscored the critical role that innovation leaders play in fostering sustainable entrepreneurship and leveraging academic knowledge for business innovation, particularly through initiatives like Knowledge Transfer Partnerships.
