Challenges of Entrepreneurs in the European Union

Kristi Dashi, PhD candidate at Faculty of Economy, University of Tirana, shared her reflections on the “Challenges of Entrepreneurs in the European Union”, inspired by her recent study visit to Zagreb, Croatia. Her presentation explored the evolving role and landscape of entrepreneurial activity across the EU, shedding light on how entrepreneurship has become a critical driver of innovation, competitiveness, and regional development. The presentation outlined key developments shaping the entrepreneurial environment, including digital transformation, green transition policies, and post-pandemic recovery measures. These shifts have spurred new opportunities but have also introduced complex challenges; from navigating fragmented regulatory frameworks to securing funding and adapting to rapidly changing market demands. A significant focus was placed on the challenges that entrepreneurs face, such as limited access to finance, bureaucratic obstacles, lack of access to skilled labor, digital and technological challenges and uneven support across EU member states. Based on her experience during the study visit in Zagreb, she emphasized the value of building a strong and enabling environment for entrepreneurship, one that encourages collaboration between sectors, aligns with policy efforts, and promotes innovation that is accessible to all. The presentation concluded with a strong appeal for both European and local stakeholders to reinforce support systems that help entrepreneurs navigate change, grow their ventures, and contribute to a resilient and future-ready economy.
