Value-Based and Responsible Innovations
Jadranka Petrović, PhD, Senior Teaching Assistant, presented the findings and experiences from the “Study visit to Manchester and London, 17 August – 1 September, 2024: Value-Based and Responsible Innovations.” The visit focused on the exploration of cutting-edge developments in renewable energy and sustainable entrepreneurship. Jadranka presented the advancements made at the Manchester Fuel Cell Innovation Centre, which is working on next-generation energy devices designed to replace fossil fuels. These innovations are aimed at improving environmental efficiency and cost-effectiveness. The Centre’s long-term goal is to contribute to the global carbon neutrality mission by 2038 through the development of hydrogen production and emission-free technologies.
Additionally, Jadranka highlighted the societal impact of responsible innovations, particularly through university-industry collaborations, such as those involving Manchester Metropolitan University and the Jacobs company. She also discussed the historical context of industrial advancements, focusing on the negative aspects of the industrial revolution, such as slavery, labor exploitation, and child work, as depicted in the Manchester Science and Industry Museum. These reflections are crucial for integrating ethical considerations into future sustainable business practices and innovations.
